I mean, let's be honest. If you live on a farm(-ish), you have to have...
A dog.
Full disclosure, dogs have been a constant in my life from the time I was born. When I got married, I moved out of my parents house and into an apartment with my husband. That first two weeks of my marriage is the only time I can remember NOT having a dog in my life.
And they were the worst two weeks of my life.
So, of course I already have a dog.
Two, actully.
One is a grumpy-A$$-loud-mouthed-pain-in-my-butt-that-teaches-everyone-to-bark-15-year-old-rat-terrier-we-got-for-our-daughter-that- ended-up-being-our-son's.
Annoying.
The other is all mine.
He's a hundred-and-fifty-pounds-of-cuddle-monster-who-sleeps-on-my-hubsters-side-of-the-bed.
I love him to death.
I have no doubt that (even though he's a sissy...) he'd protect me IF....
Well, I think he would...
If he HAD too....
Let's face it. He's a big ol' wusse.
When I took him to puppy training, he was 30 pounds and his best freind was a tea-cup chihuaha that was less than 2 pounds.
He was terrified of everyone else.
For a Rotweiller, he's getting up there in age, and it's starting to show (he's 6, and the average lifespan is only 10).
SO....
Big Reveal.....
We got a Blue Heeler.
**PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT**
Heelers only have two speeds:
Speed 1: Eat-Chew-On-Things-Pee-Chew-On-Things-Eat-Chew-On-Things...Is-There-Anything-To-Eat?-Chew-On-Things-Poop-Chew-On-Things-Eat....
Speed 2: Sleep.
That's it.
And, the older they get, the less time they spend sleeping.
They are A LOT.
BUT....
If you love constant comedy...
OMG.
He chases leaves and trip over his own feet.
Imagine a cat on crack....
That's a Blue Heeler.
But he will also curl up in the crook of my arm and take a nap with me on the couch (cause, let's face it, he wore me out and our nap-time just happened to coincide).
And my Rotty (although he does accassionally GENTLY express his annoyance)... let's him chew on his ears, shares his chew-toys, and is more than willing to let his baby brother eat the food in his bowl.
I've always said the best dogs pick you, and Rip is no exception.
(Yes, he was named after my favorite male character on Yellowstone. Don't judge. And don't tell my husband - I'm not sure he realized that when he voted....)
Special Thanks to Stephen at S&B Cattle Company in Prauge for our newest family member. If you are in the market for a Heeler, they take GREAT care of their pups. Check them out here: https://www.facebook.com/sbcattlecompanyok
