So... we did a thing.

On Friday, October 20, 2023 at 8:25am, we officially went under contract to purchase a beautiful home on HWY 33 in central Oklahoma.

But our story doesn't start there. Let me give you some background.

We've had some events this year....

My MIL had a stroke in January, and passed away in June.

She raised my husband as a single mother, and although she did remarry to a wonderful man in November 1997, he passed away a year prior (on July 25, 2021 which happened to be my husbands 46th birthday).

My husband was left to handle the estate on his own.

Stressful, to say the least.

We found out the day after his mother's funeral that my husbands father had also passed away from prostate cancer, which he had been battling for several years.

My husband became an orphan in two days.

Sad, yes... BUT

It ended up being a blessing in disguise.

His dad's diagnosis led my husband to get tested, and he found out he had colon cancer in March.

A colon resection in May and a cancer survivor tattoo later in July, my husband is cancer free.

We also got to connect with his half sister in Colorado who he hadn't seen in almost 30 years. We spent several days with her and her family during his father's memorial at Poudre Canyon and Johnstown, CO. They are wonderful people and we hope to make them a permanent fixture in our lives.

Amidst all of this, we were trying to keep everything in our home life as stabile as possible (we do have 2 kids after all - our youngest was starting his Senior year of HS and our eldest is 22 but still lives at home.)

This all happened between January 4th and June 4th of 2023.

6 months.

TO. THE. DAY.

And we are only 6 more months away from (maybe.... hopefully?) being empty nesters.

My parents are still alive. Although aging, both of them are active and still tending a hobby farm.

But after our experience with my husbands parents, being over an hour away from them just wasn't something we wanted.

So.

We did a thing.

We bought a house.

On a farm...... ish.

In the middle of BFE.

In a town I didn't want to live.

These are my stories...
