Hello from the Rock House!
It's hard to believe it's been January since I've blogged. I think I've kept up with most of the remodel milestones on my personal blog, but here's a rundown of what's been going on in this "Reluctant Farmgirl's" life.....
Daughter got her first apartment (yay!)
Son's cap and gown have been ordered, and we have travelled to TWO out of state Lacrosse tournaments.
I applied and was approved for my Oklahoma Alternative Teaching Certificate.
Rip earned his Beginner Training certificate, and passed Trick Training.
Our backyard has been re-fenced, and stumps have been removed/grinded around the pool (Thank you Corbin Minney!)
My regular job (aka the one I get paid for) has gotten more hectic as everyone is trying to set goals and get back on task after the holidays, leaving me mentally exhausted at the end of the day and contributing to my bloggers block and one of the main reasons it's been so long since I posted.
(UGH....)
I have discovered how to build a proper fire in a fireplace thanks to a video from This Old House, moved approximately 26 tons of gravel with a hobby tractor, learned how to use the front end loader of said hobby tractor to backfill the hole left from our aerobic system install, and used a chainsaw FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE.
Oddly enough, I find using a chainsaw highly addictive, and have asked my husband to get me a more powerful one that doesn't require an extension cord.
He's a little scared for my safety, but he'll come around.
Phase One of the Rock House Remodel is done, sans the "final checklist" items and the French doors for the Master Bedroom that won't be in until March 19th. We dove right into Phase Two, deciding the ceiling should probably be scraped of the 70's popcorn finish before we officially moved in May.
Needless to say, I've been busy....
While I haven't been posting, you may have noticed some changes to my blog... I've been working on the technical side of things and trying to get some updates done to the quilting section of my website.
Spring has officially sprung at the Rock House; I have discovered three native redbud trees, a grove of Daffodils, several Iris plants, and the Peach and Pear trees are in full bloom (the apple tree just started to bud).
When the weather is nice, any free time I have is spent finishing reclaimed barnwood for the remodel project, or cutting down and clearing up felled trees.
As of right now, the first floor of the Rock House is technically un-livable, since everything but the kitchen is being renovated. It was cold and rainy the first few days of Phase Two, so I spent them trapped in the basement with the furniture we have moved out here, Rip-Stick, and Gunner-boy. I was ecstatic when the weather turned nicer this weekend and we all went outside to get some much needed personal space. The dogs seemed to enjoy it too and wore themselves out. I think we were all suffering from cabin fever, and quite frankly sick of each others company.
And... just an FYI... when your contractor text you with "well looks like we have some more options now on the wall next to the entry", it's not a good thing.
Not good at all.
What that translated to was "the workers tore down a wall they weren't supposed to".
I'm only about 10% sure that teardown was a mistake...
I LOVE our contractor, partially because he has this uncanny ability to get my imagination going, but mostly because he has a way of talking me into things I don't want to admit.
The room DOES look better without that pony wall.
And he has effectively secured the remodel of our staircase and kitchen in this little "oopsy".
Granted, it will be 8 months from now before we move to Phase Three, but still.
Husband bought a zero-turn mower, and I drove all the way to Stillwater to pick up a Chicken Coop I saw on sale at Atwood's, much to the Hubster's chagrin.
But, like I told the checkout girl at Atwood's.... if you buy a girl a farm, she's gonna want some chickens.
We are having the family over for an authentic Colcannon and Irish Stew dinner for Saint Patrick's Day this weekend, and I plan on picking my dad's brain about starting a clutch - I really want a couple of Barneveldera and Ameraucana for my birthday.
The cows won't be far behind.
