21 days... Now What? And our first Snow at The Rock House.

Much like the rest of Oklahoma, we've been in a deep freeze the past couple of weeks here at the Rock House. While I love the snow, I don't care for the cold much. Both me and the dog are starting to suffer from cabin fever (I've even resorted to cleaning to keep myself busy and warm, and the dog has resorted to destroying everything I clean... Grrr!).

Even with the cold, the view has been amazing. We've sat in our den and identified countless species of birds getting water from our pool cover (which managed to stay thawed for most of the cold spell), watch squirrel antics, and even glimpsed a doe skating down our driveway.

There was also a sparrow that flew into our sliding glass doors - he was a little dazed and confused, but eventually flew off. Luckily the dog didn't see it and bring it inside while it was still unconscious. (Cue the squirrel scene from Christmas vacation - "I'm gonna catch it in the coat. Smack it with a hammer.)

That would have been fun.

Not.

Our bathroom remodel is moving along (although it's been slowed a little due to the weather), so we haven't been totally cut off from civilization, and I did get to meet our neighbors across the road the other night.

While this little Okie town was definitely NOT my first choice as a homestead, I am falling in love with it. The small town hospitality is really quite amazing.

The first 21 days of my 2/1 for 2024 rule is officially complete. I'm glad to say I hit my goals every day for the first 21 (except for one day where I didn't get ALL my water in.... but, I'm shooting for consistency, not perfection).

So.... Now what?

It's time to re-evaluate!!

As I said in an earlier post, the "it takes 21 days to start or stop a habit" rumor isn't true. So if you are following along with me, and you don't feel you've got your 2/1 down in the first 21.... keep them on the list! If you feel you need a challenge, add on more (or subtract something else, as the case may be)!

Here was my mental process for determining the goals for my next 21:

  1. Start drinking at least 4 Eskimo Joe's cups of water each day (that's roughly 8 servings, or 64 ounces).

  2. Start taking a multivitamin every day

  3. Stop drinking that nightly margarita (or other nightcap)

So, after reviewing my initial list, I used the SMART principles of goal setting and came up with the following goals for the next 21 days:

  1. Altered: Drink at least 94 ounces of water daily

  2. Added: Do 15 minutes of morning yoga and take a multivitamin

  3. Continued: Stop drinking that nightly margarita (or other nightcap)

Now I just have to make a new tracker for yoga in my log book...

Whatever your goals are for 2024, I'm rooting for you!
